School children from Mount Steward Primary School in Harrow, northwest London, have been designing posters to gain sponsorship for NHS Forest trees to be planted at Northwick Park Hospital. They will be displaying their posters around the hospital to encourage staff, patients and the local community to sponsor the trees and increase the amount of green space on the site.

Charles Hurford, a radiographer and sustainability champion at the hospital trust has been instrumental in managing this project.

“Looking after our environment, as we all know, is very important,” says Charles. “Since the building work started at Northwick Park, some trees have been removed to make way for the new multi-million pound emergency department. I have a vision that we can replace them with ones that will provide good habitats for birds and wildlife, such as hawthorn and hazel.”
